    Cross platform help please

G'day, can anyone please explain how cross-platform works for PCs.
I have googled it but am none the wiser. I know that they mean Xbox systems run Windows 10 but what else is involved with the installation and whatever follows concerning registration accounts, etc on the PC side of it?

My son and I are keen on a game that is soon to be released "Sea Of Thieves" however the cover says "Xbox One console exclusive" even though it is said to be "cross platform" and "play anywhere" compatible.
I tried to pre-order the game from the official Microsoft web page for the game but it is all focused on Xbox claiming I need an "Xbox Live" account.
I tried to ask about it on the official forums of the game itself and that too was focused on the Xbox console and I needed an Xbox Live account just to register on the forums there.
FFS I absolutely despise how these arseholes use computers to make games for freaking consoles and forget all about making the PC version.

Of the entire Microsoft's "Sea Of Thieves" pre-order page they have devoted one line to PC which virtually says "system requirements: Windows 10 OS". Pfft
Nothing about CPU, RAM or GPU. I found more information on third party sites.

A few months ago I was really keen on another "cross platform" game "Forza Horizon 3" but I was not prepared to run the massive Trojan that is Windows 10 just for that one game.
Even though I have Windows 10 on a new hard drive that I keep outside of and disconnected from my system. I probably used it for a total of three days before I had enough of Microspy.
At least the cover of that game was "Xbox One and Windows 10 PC". Well, it mentioned "PC" on some of the covers anyway.
That's another thing. Why have some covers saying "Xbox One exclusive" and others saying "Xbox One and PC" for the same game that is meant to be "cross platform"? Is there a difference?
    See my confusion?
If I buy the game with the cover saying "Xbox One exclusive" will it still work on PC?
I will be buying two installments of the game at AUS$100 each so I want to be absolutely certain before hand.
Experienced input on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

    Cheers

Just to confirm how Microsoft hack your system while you browse their web pages.
I have never played an Xbox or made any account for it but when I was trying to do so, one page came up with all of my personal details, none of which are on my computer.
It listed my email address, full name and date of birth as soon as the page loaded. WTF?
There was more info there but I quickly closed the page and didn't read through it all.
I am running Windows 7 on this system although it is not registered in my name. So how the f*ck did Microspy get all of my personal information?

    Oops I forgot to mention..

On one video stream of the "Sea of Thieves" closed beta the dude was answering the chat and said "Buy it for your Xbox One and register it through Xbox Live then you can play it on your PC".
WTF? I need to buy a $400 console just to play a PC game?

Cross-buy (Xbox Play Anywhere) means if you buy a digital copy you can use it on your Xbox or on your PC.

I'll have to know what page it was or what was entered beforehand. For example, the Microsoft site will use your Outlook account, as it did with me when I checked just now.

    I went to: https://www.seaofthieves.com/preorder

Then I clicked the "pre-order now" button.

Logged in with my Outlook (or hotmail) account.

Then you can buy it from there.

    Also, see:

    http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/20...deem-code-5001

The whole process is shoddy as hell. PC definitely looks like it's taking a back seat in their advertising and website.

Oh, and does the Xbox One exclusive text refer to extra DLC I wonder?

Thanks mate. They surely could take a course in web design and another course in marketing.
I had chased my tail clicking "pre-order" buttons page after page. One page with a "pre-order" button just lead to another.
After posting here I ended up getting to chat with the online assistance of the Microsoft "Sea Of Thieves" pre-order page but alas they knew less of the game than I. *Acca rolls eyes then shakes head *
Here's a copy of our transcript.

You are now chatting with Travs.
Travs: Hi. Thank you for visiting Microsoft and Office Store Website, My name is Travs. How can I help you today?

You: G'day Travs, I want two PC versions of this game but everything says "Xbox One" exclusive.
    Travs: Good day

Travs: Is that the Sea of Thieves for Xbox One?

You: Yes but every "pre order" link says Xbox One
    You: I have a PC
    Travs: Thanks! One moment please.

    Travs: https://www.microsoft.com/en-au/stor...m-requirements

Travs: Please click that link instead, that one is for Windows store and it is available for PC

You: That is where I started from, ten links later that all said "pre order" has lead me here.
Travs: Thanks! as I check from our support specialist, the game is not yet release on PC or not yet available but this soon will be compatible on PC once the game is released, it is first available on Xbox one then later will be available on Windows.

Travs: As of now the game developer or creator doesn't have post when the game will be available on PC, were still also waiting for it and assume once the game is released and ready to play, they will release one for PC as well from Microsoft Windows store.

You: That's odd. They have promoted it for Xbox One and PC. They had a closed beta of it where the majority of Youtube streamers were on PCs.
Travs: I got your point, and yes it will soon be available on PC but the pre order is for Xbox first, as it is show on the site Sea of Thieves is set to be the next unforgettable adventure for players on Xbox One and Windows 10 PC.

You: Thank you for your time.
Travs: For your information, you can only download the game on Windows 10 Store from Windows 10 PC and you can order It from there directly.

    You: Okay thank you
Info: The chat transcript will be sent at the end of your chat.
    Travs: You're welcome.

FIRST, edit your post so robots can't scan for email address that are openly posted.

Second, haha you chatted with a robot, sound like lol....sry I had to say that and not any help, but I understand your frustration completely.

Games for systems anymore are a pain in the ass, and frankly no good for little kids if you still have youngins'....

I'm glad I have an emulater box setup for the tv with atari 2600, mame and a whole slew of other early NON swearing game systems.

People don't care what their products do to little kids anymore, they just want the money but use the the rating on the box as an excuss...
On early games, blood guts and profanity stuff was off as a default setting you could change, but they only have the rating now and tv commercials to promote them...and kids want whats cool, and people don't know what the f the rating on the box means....In most situations anyway.

sry topic got off offffff topic, just letting out some steam....OH STEAM...DON'T GET ME STARTED....

Okay it appears that over five hours of persistence this morning has finally started to pay off.
At first my Windows 10 HDD wouldn't boot even though I set it in the BIOS as the primary boot drive.
I tried to enter my activation ID for my registered anti virus into my trial version but it wouldn't accept it.
After fighting to view web pages due to my anti-virus trial expiring I've had to try to remember passwords to two email addresses I hadn't used in many years.
Although my main "hotmail" account opens automatically for me I forgot its password which then required the back-up email account which I had also forgotten the password to so I had to call upon yet another back-up email account to retrieve that one but I had forgotten that password too. lol Luckily the back-up of that account is my hotmail account and although I couldn't remember its password I do have access to it.
I have them all written on a text file but obviously hadn't updated changes made. D'oh!
I even had troubles logging in here. Although that isn't a password issue, it happened when i first joined too.
It says thank you for logging in AccadaccA and that it will redirect me to the main page but once that happens I'm no longer logged in despite checking the "keep me logged in" option.
I logged in a second time and got the same result.
Like when i first joined this forum it's not until I click a forum category that it actually places my name on top of the page as being logged in.
Over time it fixed itself back then but I can't recall how many log-ins it took.

Well I have now found the FREE "final beta" from Microsoft Store and am currently downloading it. That's a better result than I hoped for. Free Whoohoo!
At first I unknowingly clicked the bloody Xbox One download link then found the second link which is for PC. Neither of the links are marked as to which platform they are for. Typical Microsoft incompetence.
The ONLY way I knew was when it said "downloading to your Xbox".
Anyone else wants to try the Free final beta via the Microsoft Store, search for "Sea of Thieves" then click the green skull image of the search results for Xbox or the red skull image of the search results for PC.

Wow, that was awesome fun. I teamed up with a chick who was excellent at finding treasure.
I wrote the previous post hours ago but the game was ready to launch so I jumped aboard. lol
My very first strike with the shovel and I hit a chest. Whoohoo!
We made a killing finding treasure but then she had to leave.
Neither of our mics were working so I thought to leave too and check out what's wrong with mine.
By all means try the FREE beta.

Cheers Major, I didn't notice that line, edited now.
I've actually found Steam to be a lot easier now.

The Microsoft account for my email addy had some other joker's name. I have had trouble with this in the past where somehow two of us were sharing the same email account.
Its sounds impossible but trust me, it happened. We would both keep changing the password on each other.
I had to write to Hotmail telling them that I started the account some 20 years ago and this dude had hijacked it.
Its been good lately except for finding some username for the gaming side of it.

I shall try to get that changed.

Okay I managed to change the gaming username and thought to test it in game to be sure.
It worked but then I couldn't waste the opportunity to play some more. lol
I gave my son a fair play too. After all he was mad keen on this game for weeks before I knew anything about it.

Dang its such a nice looking game with plenty of free-roam and the options to do whatever you want rather than follow a set game path made by typical game developers.
Check it out on Youtube folks. Be mindful that what you'll see on videos is only the beta which is said to only be 20% of the entire game content.
It'll also help you understand a lot about the game such as how to purchase and start voyages, how to find treasure, sell treasure, mend damages to your vessel, etc.

Steam used to be horrible in the early days, idk about now but the way things worked back then detered me from using it.

I'm glad you got it working, your post happened to coinside with something I've dealing with that's been gnawing at me and
allowed me to rant and get some out of my system before I had an aneurysm lol
